apple snails, aka brigs, are a good choice. many different colours to choose from and a number of members on here have gorgeous ones, some for sale i'm pretty sure.

calcium rich vegetables, snail jello, algae wafers. good food for shellkids, lol.

i have mts, rams, and pond snails, and they only eat the veggies i give them and any plants that are failing. they leave the healthy ones preeeetty much alone.

ok thanks for the info everyone. think il look into the apples, mts or rams.

i heard snails can quickly become a pest. If that would happen would it be best to get a fish like a clown loach to keep their numbers down or would he just end up eating them all?

No, I would never advise using fish to do the task. Here is a thread that will cover plenty of ways of controlling the snail population.

try Nerites? The eat algae, don't eat healthy plants and cannot reproduce in fresh water.. well at least most of the genuses save one or two

Had a quick look at them and there are some nice checkered and stripped ones, its a plus they cant reproduce in fresh water would be alot less hassle.

Theres some snails at my lfs not sure what they are think they are but they look like apples so might go for them because theres not many other fish shops i know near me, its a pity though because ive been introduced to some nice smails here.
Think i'll eventually get another kind though

I think most snails can be shipped 2-3 day usps and that's about $7 a box and if you check the classified people are selling snails for $1-$4 a piece.. I have gotten my briggs from 3 different sellers here and they are beautiful, I even have a batch or 2 myself that are growing up! I too recommend nerites (MsJ's for one has these and they're excellent!) Added salethread for her HERE (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=194448)

as far as briggs reproducing like mad in your tank, you have the option of freezing any egg clutches that are laid, which in turn keeps any babies from being allowed to happen. since briggs lay eggs above the water line, it is uber easy to remove the clutches.
