there is a chance that clown loaches do carry internal parasites, every specimin is wild caught, and to be honest, like every fish out there, they will carry a certain amount of nastys.
as for medicated flakes, don't bother, if your worried, dose the tank with an anti-parasite medication, that should clear up anything inside them.
your right about the symptoms. lethargicness, lack of appetite, possibly swimming problems, all symptoms of internal parasites...

I've used pepso food for just that. My clown loaches seem to alternate getting skinny so I isolated them, fed them pepso food for the recommended 3 days and then fed them (regular food)for a couple more days just to fatten them up. They haven't gotten skinny since then which is about 6 months or so.
One thing I did notice. It's a pretty small granule food so if you have high current, it tends to get sucked up easily. You may want to turn the flow down at feeding time or add the food as far from the intake as possible.
Also, the directions are a bit vague saying to feed for 3 days. Anyone who has ever used medication to treat fish via food knows you feed the chemical as a % of body weight of fish. Not that you're going to weigh your loaches, I would just recommend NOT overfeeding them, rather feed several times a day.

You can either buy pepso food or tetra makes medicated flakes and sticks. Or you can make you own medicated foods(this is what i do). You can buy metrodazole(sp?) and mix it with a bit of water untill dissolved then soak your regular pellets or sinking tabs in this mixture untill the pellets have absorbed it. It works really well or you can even soak frozen foods in the meds if you have a fish taht is a picky eater.

I also jsut bought new life specturm Thera A anti parasite pellets. I jsut started using them yesterday. It is a anti parasite non medicated food and can be used as a regular diet.

Also treating parasites with medicated food it WAY more effective then treating the water. Usually treatign the water is only done when the fish are so sick they won't take the medicated food. it is best to get then to eat the meds as it treats it right where the parasites are,in the gut.

i have mixed the metrozycl - stuff sorry can't think of how to spell it but you know what i mean with flake food i stirred in the contianer - maybe i shoul soak it into the pellet food though?
so i wanna make sure i do this right just pour the white stuff ( the meds) onto the pellets and soak the mixture or soak the pellets first then add the mixture?

I didn't use an acurate measurements. I jsut added a little bit(about half a scoop of the seachem metro.) Then i added a bit of warm water(the metro doesn't disolve in room temp water). I then added how many pellets i was going to feed. I waited a few minutes(10-15mins) untill the pellets were completely soaked through. I then drained off the rest of the water and fed the pellets.

You can also feed frozen foods. It says direction on the back of the metro.(by seachem) to add about 2oz. water to one scoop of meds and soak the food for an hour. Well i did it a bit differently. I thawed out the forzen foods and then directly mixed in the metro powder. I added about half a scoop full to 2 cubes of frozen foods. I read somewhere that it is really hard to overdose metro. so dont' worry if you add too much.
