I used to have africans, I switched to South Americans. I took out all the crushed coral changed 3/4 of water and still GH is off the charts. Does anyone know if rainbow rock (see pic) raises Gh. I love in Staten Island GH of tap water is 0.
Thanks For Your HElp

i cannot think of the exact substance, but i have seen this on the web plenty of times before. i believe maybe the ones i have seen before the rock was made out of a salt like substance. increasing hardness was always the case and usually close to if not fatal for some inhabitants. now i want to call it some kind of lime.... oh limestone, i think that's it... looks an awful lot like what you got there. i would take it out.

another note.... keep track of the size of the stone somehow especially if you keep it in there... many people notice (close to when it's too late) the stone seemingly getting smaller over time.

yes, if it is limestone based, then the low ph will dissolve the calcium carbonate, their for increasing the level of c2 ions for the test to pick up

All fish need GH, so in reality adding to your tap's mysterious absence (are you using an RO filter at all) is not bad at all. The increase should be pretty steady to give them time to adjust.
