Hi

I got a 40 gallon with 2 oscars in it. They've been in that tank for about 4 months. (I only got them 5 months ago)

The bigger one is about 5,5 inches and the smaller one is about 4 inches.

Can I put in a pleco or two to compliment the tank and hopefully get a hold on the algae problem or is it too late to introduce new fish? (ie will the new pleco get murdered on sight?)

Oscar tanks are cleaned by their owners. Plecos or other FW fish don't clean up poop, besides the tank is too small as is, much less for more fish.

You should be fine with one of the bigger plecos. See if you can find one that is already big.

You might have problems with 2 oscars in that smaller tank with aggression, but maybe not.

You will have enormus problems with waste production. Make sure to up water changes and have great filtration.
