I searched through the hitchhiker i.d. thread and didn't see anything like this... I just added about 5lbs of base rock to a 20 long and I noticed this little guy (tank was set up today). Any idea what it is?

Definitely a wrasse of some sort. Neat hitchhiker.

It might be a brother to the grim reaper fish.... :D

That is the cool thing about SW, the surprises. I know some of them are not GOOD surprises, but then you find something cool like this.

Very neat to get a fish as a hitchhiker.

well ,your location says miami, so i assume this is florida rock, this leads me to suspect that what you have isn't a wrasse but a juvenile sand diver, lizard fish, sand tilefish, or other common rock ruble loving sand dweler.

not saying it can't be a wrasse, the pics kindof bad, but from my snorkel/(maybe illegal) diving experience, it is more likely one of those.

can you dercribe finnage, particularly pecs, and dorsal. estimated length of caudal peduncle, versus caudal fin and rest of body. maybe a pic of it swimming.

sorry if i am asking a lot but that is the best way i can help you
