Before I even list any shrimp for sale, I want to try and get a handle on shipping them. I understand the Kordon breather bag method and insulating the box for heater packs. However, I haven't been able to find anything about cold packs.

Do you guys use cold packs during the summer? If so, 1/2 pound or 1 pound, and exactly how do you pack the shrimp?

My other alternative is to just wait until the fall before I start shipping any. From what I have seen, the shrimp handle cold weather a lot better than hot weather. I even had some shrimp that were shipped to me last winter survive overnight in 20 degree weather and survive the entire day out in 40 degree weather just sitting out in a Kordon breather bag with no heat pack or insulation. It is a long story, but the short of it is that somebody stole the box from my doorstep and left the bag of shrimp down in a wetland area of the community. The only reason I found it is 1) the shipper told me delivery was confirmed and 2) while walking the dog I saw all kinds of newspaper and a shipping box in the wetland area. I put 2 and 2 together and found the bag of shrimp. I guess somebody didn't want the shrimp after they found out what was in the box.

Wow! That is a great rescue story. Good for you!
