so a while back i bought a cherry shrimp from the
LFS. The shrimp was in the same tank as yellow shrimp, and Heteropod. i didn't know one was berried, or must have just started getting berried. Well she had babies in my tank, and for months now i have seen ugly little shrimp. The other day i noticed one was fully mature, but it was an awsome dark rootbeer colored shrimp, with a real prominate tan strip. Its very cool, I wonder if i can get any more if i let them continue to breed. One is berried atm. My sister stole my camra so i can take a pic :( anyone know if this is normal?

Any time you mix the colors of neocaridina the offspring will revert back to the wild type. What you are seeing is the shrimp in it's natural state without the line or specific breeding to get the colors that are popular.

I'm no expert on this but I think the "wild type" colouration can vary. I seem to recall reading the wild type described as grey, brown, and transparant in different places. (some areas sell Neocaridina wild types as ghost shrimp).

Could also be, if there are multiple genes that control colouration not all of them are recessive to the wild-type genes found in the other variant you have.

Could easily be "wild type" and look different to other "wild types" you've seen.

ya they can vary, but this one is DARK DARK brown, looks like cola, or root beer, and a bright tan stripe down its back. Gorgeous shrimp. I need to find a camera!
