I know they're already gone- but how well do Lotus do in an aquarium as opposed to a pond? Do they require a lot of space and light?

Mine did well in a 50gal with high light; I clipped leaves if they got too tall or big, but it stayed small enough to be manageable and looked great. I think they're capable of taking up a lot of space if you let them.

these aren't pond lotus...Nymphaea lotus are from africa. They can get a good size they are heavy root feeders and throw up awesome flowers if you let the leaves stay up to the surface long enough. The only problem is it blocks out some if not all of the light to a tank. I had mine in a 55 and like sguthrie said you can trim it to keep it more compacted or you can let it go completely nuts and trim when needed. Ive honestly never tried a Nymphaea lotus in a pond before but I'd imagine if the pond is built right and temps are right it would be fine. Just remember its a heavy root feeder.

BUMP for the best RAOKer on the board

I doubt I'm the best raok'er on the board I just like to remind people that fish keeping is a HOBBY :eek3::eek3: it seems people sometimes forget about sharing with your fellow hobbyist..and I'm not saying give everything away for free and you aren't allowed to make a dime on it. But sometimes it doesn't hurt just to share a little. And no I'm not pointing out names or anything just telling you what I think. /rant over

BUMP

Those lotus plants are neat I use to have several now im down to 3 or 4 got a bulb just sitting there with a leaf peaking but been like that for over a week. In the right substrate they grow like weeds and produce some flowers. They were awesome to bad the pleco's I had discovered they were edible and well there went that.

DeeSeven

thanks for the bump ger yea plecos love their leaves sadly...I have 9 java mosses remaining....

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING!!!!!!!

Not that many of you know (or maybe you do?)...Connecticut got SLAMMED with a pretty bad storm. Sadly my town was hit the hardest. 94% of my town was without power last night and today there is still 53% with no power.I've been without power since 1pm friday and it looks like now I'll have power turned on monday by 10:30pm at the very earliest. And to make things even better my street is closed due to few falling trees. If any of you close to hartford heard about the tree falling through a house

http://www.courant.com/news/local/hc-storm-slams-state-0627,0,6820532.story

that's about 2 blocks from where I live....

SO PLEASE

sit tight these next few days I'll get the packages out by wednesday at the extreme latest..If the plants don't make it or havent made it I will be pming you and working out something so I'll see what I can do.

and

FYI

please stop pming me about stuff I dont have listed in this thread for raok. If I had it for a raok it would be up here

Wow Mother Nature can sure be a pain.
Many years ago I purchased a generator for my house, it has paid for itself many times. You can get a good one for around $1000.
