Pop star Michael Jackson has died after suffering a heart attack, it has been reported.
Media reports have said the star, 50, was taken to hospital in Los Angeles after he was found not breathing in his Holmby Hills home earlier.
Celebrity website TMZ said 911 operators received an emergency call about 12.12pm local time (5.12am AEST).
"We're told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back," the website reported.
Jackson is believed to have gone into cardiac arrest and paramedics performed CPR on him en route to UCLA hospital.
The website quoted family members as saying the Thriller singer was in "really bad shape."
"We just got off the phone with Joe Jackson, Michael's dad, who says 'he is not doing well.'' the website had earlier reported.
Jackson was reportedly planning a comeback and was living in Los Angeles while rehearsing a series of 50 sold-out shows in London, the LATimes has reported.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics had rushed to the singer's $100,00-a-month rented home near Sunset Boulevard to find him not breathing, according to the newspaper.
More to come...

*SOBS* *SOBS* *SOBS* I have actually been crying over this for hours. I grew up with Michael Jackson during the 80's and it actually is hitting me a little harder than I would have thought, considering I don't even really know the man. The only thing I can say is I hope he finds the peace in death that he never had in life.
This really shocked me yesterday. Terrible way to go. Had no idea how bad of shape he was in.
RIP, MJ.

I remember when he and his brothers first hit the music scene. It was fantastic. Sad part is the poor guy never had a chance at a normal childhood/life. RIP Michael.....

Don't give me that "never had a normal childhood" BS. He isn't the only one to have suffered at the hands of his parents. His eccentricities were only escalated due to his immense wealth and no proper guidance. It is a shame that most people can't be a friend without wanting something in return. I doubt that he ever had a trustworthy friend that wasn't in it for a cut.
I would never want to be famous and lose my self-identity. Sadly, he is now free of the emotional and physical pains he called life.

Funny things is, when I heard this, I was saddened. My next thought was, "oh, well he really didn't have good health anyhow." Followed by next thought, "I wonder who is going to post this first on AC."

Why is it that when Elvis died EVERYONE mourned his death and when someone whos contributions to the worlds of humanitarianism, music and pop culture dies people just want to say "OH WELL"?

Yeah he's dead, but I don't see the reasoning for plastering so many tributes to him on every news show, news paper, and internet news site around. I have a hard time feeling sorry for a guy who sold pictures of his own kids to tabloids... Farrah was a much more note worthy person IMO, and at least Ed McMahon was man enough to admit to his mistakes in life.

Actually I will deny that, I would never sell pictures of family and friends. I am completely against the tabloid/paparazzi culture.

The media is like feeding time at the shark pool. They go where the story has the most possibilites to blow it up and get the most viewers...that is what they do.....as far as I am concerned all 3 (Ed, Farrah & MJ) left a mark on this world own their own way and their own fields; two of which, the younger generation has no memory or concept of and will never "get it"......
*edit* this is in no way to condone the way MJ exploited his children and dangled them out of windows, blah, blah, blah. The guy had issues but also had immense talent.

Because Elvis didn't have the same allegations against him...and he didn't do many of the psychotic things that Jackson did as his health and career deteriorated. It's hard to eulogize Jackson the way people eulogized Elvis because they don't know how they feel about the man.

You are right Elvis did not have the same allegations as Michael Jackson did everyone just looked the other way when a 24 year old Elvis started dating a 14 year old Priscilla.

I didn't grow up with Elvis, but I did with MJ. I'll tell you this much, the media with the advent of the Internet today, is much different than yesterday's.
MJ won't go down in history as the best person that walked this earth, but he certainly will be the King of Pop, that can't be denied.

The way I see it. People make way to big a deal about celebrities and all that they do. Yeah, they die, the are human. I would rather morn the death of someone who changed the world for the better, not someone who made movies, music and got rich.

they really didn't look the other way.
older guys marrying young women/girls was not really that uncommon in certain areas in the US..back in the day...so to speak.
he met Priscilla in the late 50's and were married in late 60's.
often these marriages were with the approval of the parents ,who probably married early in age.
cultures change, so did life expectancy.
you were considered over the hill at 30 then..

Parents approval or not culture or not it is still IMO child endangerement at its least, but I digress. I wold like to know just how much urging the coroner had from the Police officials in this case.
