WATER CHANGES! STAT! I'd do AT LEAST 20%, and test your tap water too because you better hope it's not the culprit. Your fish dying in your tank probably raised the amonia levels. If you have a quarantine tank set up, I'd move your fish! GOOD LUCK!

Water changes, water changes, water changes.
If you have a water treatment that binds ammonia, add it as well, but the water changes wil lbe the most help. Do several 50% water changes. On changes of this size, you must match temp and keep the pH as close as you can. Test after each change until the ammonia and nitrites are not detectable and nitrates are within an acceptable range.

its a 30 gal and my tap water has clorine, i have clorine remover but will it work fast enough?
OrionGirl

Yes, and you can help the chlorine along by stirring the water. I would run a bucket, treat it, stir it for 5 minutes (or run a bubbler that long), then do the change. As soon as you're down with that one, run the water for the next one so it has time to gas off chlorine.
Right now, the ammonia and nitrites are much more toxic than the chlorine.
I would start doing 10% water changes every hour. Get new water ready for the next change.

Okay, well for a betta, practically ANYTHING can work as a q-tank. Just match the pH and the temp and introduce him to wherever you can put him! Like a bucket used for water changes, a gallon jar of pickles (empty heehee), um... a vase! ANYTHING! Otherwise the little critter doesn't have as good a chance.

i have an old betta hex i can use

How big is the betta hex? How big are the cories? You don't want to cramp them all into something really small when they are already stressed out. I'd set your priorities right now- which fish would you like to live THE MOST. Is there no way you can get home? I'd drive my butt out there if that's what it takes!

its a dubble betta hex maybe half a gallon
dont think my dad will drive me home ill ask tho
fishdude
12-11-2003, 5:54 PM
YESSSS! he will let me go
NOOOO! my mom wont let me come home
shes gonna let the fish DIE!! then buy me new ones:( :(
Tuperware!!!! Bowls. Anything. But if you get on those water changes as soon as possible (or your mom) then things should be okay. The betta is tough and can breath air. The cories can grab breaths of air as well and that is probably why they are hanging in.

Eep! Yell at mom! Was your pH at 8.8 before as well? It's pretty high! Um okay, tell her to fill the betta bowl, and some vases or like a water pitcher... up with tap water. Add a drop of chlorine remover to each and let it sit for at least a minute. Test all the temperatures and as long as they are pretty close ~2 degrees C, then she can just drop 'em in. Avoid using a net tho, it stresses!

how do i catch them in a thirty gallon without a net, they are also small about half an inch
yashinfan

I like to use a strainer, or a glass. But if it is your mom doing it, then let her use the net. My fish swim into a glass if I put it in the tank so I've always found that easier and less harmful. Especially with the little ones. Good luck

Where I was born and raised in Norfolk/Va Beach area of Virginia, the pH of the water was 6.8. Now, if you drove a couple hours away to outside of Richmond it was near 9!
...Talk about a difference.
Anyway, I would keep up the water changes some how and hopefully Mom will let you come home LOL :p

Ask your mom if she's let a dog die and then just buy you a new one.
Or a sister...

Cories are pretty tough litte fish. My parents bought my brother and I Bettas when were were yonger and my brothers died. They went and bought him a little speckeled cory to replace it and it live for a good 3 years in a betta bowl * with plently of water changes of course*. We put it in a 10 gallon tank and it lived a few years longer.

Well what no one has really realized yet is if ammonia and nitrite were off the scale, all the fish would already be dead. I'm thinking you have a faulty or old test kit. Because all the fish you have are hardy but with an ammonia of 6-7 they would be gone, same with Nitrite since both are highly lethal. What test kit are you using? Anyway, just my opinion and hope it helps.

I don't belive algea (a natural substance) would hurt your fish. And if they are eating it I quess that just shows!!!:D Good Luck
