A year ago I was working with some of the best bosses anyone could ask for. In mid-June tragedy struck this family and hit hard... Please find it in your hearts to read the below and sign the petition to bring justice to Tyler, a child who died at the hands of his father...
To: DA of Edgecombe County, North Carolina
A 13-year old boy named Tyler McMillan died on June 12, 2008 at the hands of his father, Brice McMillan and step-mother, Sandra McMillan. He was tied to a tree all one night, brought in during the day, and tied out again the next night and left out all day (18 hours) in temperatures over 100 degrees F. According to the autopsy report, he died due to the heat and dehydration. He had also been beaten with something like a metal rod and starved before being tied outside - not just once - the autopsy showed a history of abuse. While tied up, bugs were eating at his flesh - enough that there was some flesh missing off his buttocks.
Tyler's father and stepmother were both arrested and charged with murder. In January, Sandra McMillan was released on bail and is staying in Cary, North Carolina under "house arrest". Brice McMillan is still in jail, but on June 14, 2009, he entered an Alford plea. “Definition of Alford Plea: In the law of the United States, an Alford plea is a plea in criminal court. In this plea, the defendant DOES NOT ADMIT THE ACT AND ASSERTS INNOCENCE, but admits that sufficient evidence exists with which the prosecution could likely convince a judge or jury to find the defendant guilty." He ASSERTS INNOCENCE - he accepts no blame for what he did!
Sandra is due in court again on July 6, 2009. Part of Brice's plea bargain is that he will testify against his wife; he will not be sentenced until AFTER her trial (or after she enters a plea). More than likely, Sandra will also be offered a plea bargain. Once that happens, they will most likely both be sentenced. Brice's sentence will most likely be something between 8 and 16 years - for killing a defenseless child who had been beaten and starved over the course of 1 1/2 years!
There is supposed to be another custody hearing in Edgecombe County, North Carolina for the two surviving minor children on July 7, 2009 - the day after Sandra's trial or plea bargain takes place.
Anyone desiring further information before making a decision about signing this petition can Google Tyler McMillan. I am sure you will find many articles outlining more than has been listed here.
We are asking everyone to please sign this petition asking several things:
1 - that Sandra McMillan NOT be allowed to enter a plea unless that plea is GUILTY AS CHARGED. We want the case to come before a Judge and jury so that the facts of this terrible crime are made public.
2 - that Brice McMillan be sentenced to the maximum allowed for his crime. He deprived his son of at least 70 good years of life and made his last year and a half on earth a living hell. Choosing to accept a plea where he doesn't even have to admit he did anything wrong certainly gives the impression that he has no remorse for what happened to his son - his own flesh and blood.
3 - that if Sandra McMillan does accept a plea bargain, she be sentenced to the maximum allowed for her crime. She also deprived Tyler of his life and made his last year and a half on earth a living hell.
4 - that both Brice and Sandra also be charged with criminal abuse of Brice's other son. He has survived, no thanks to them. He was also abused terribly over a period of about a year and a half. He bears physical scars as well as emotional and mental scars from the abuse he received at their hands.
5 - that both Brice and Sandra also be charged with abuse of Sandra's daughter. She was not physically abused, but she was present and witnessed the abuse of the two boys. The emotional and mental abuse she has suffered is also ABUSE.
6 - That Brice and Sandra's parental rights be terminated for both of their children FOREVER - irrevocably. They have already proven that they are abusive parents and do not deserve a second chance with the surviving children. The children deserve much better than that.
Time is of the essence with this petition. Please pass it along to all your friends and family to get as many signatures as possible in a short period of time. It needs to get to the DA of Edgecombe County as soon as possible.
Thank you for your support! A child's life could depend on it.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
