Nice weather today, and I had the day off, so I went out to a local stream with a net. It must be cray season, cause these guys are everywhere! So here are some photos from my mini-adventure.

Pretty bug. Either a dragonfly or damselfly.

Net O' Crays. Can you spot all 3? Good for you.

Also caught a fish. Not sure on the ID yet, but may be a stoneroller.

Saw this floating in the water. It startled me a first, because the mouth was opening and closing. It must be super fresh, cause the whole thing is still there.

I was going to wear my waders, but I can't get to them. Didn't stop me anyway, as I waded in up to my knees.

Nice pics. Damselfiy. The fish looks like a Darter. Did you find any young crayfish? June is the time of year we find all the little crays (1/2" - 3/4") in our local creek.

Reminds me of my childhood. I practically lived in the woods and played in creeks for hours...lol.

That's a Black Winged Damselfly (Calopteryx maculata). We have them in the cold water creeks around here too. They're a gorgeous species!

Thank you! I see that the females have the white tips, and the males don't. I had assumed they were separate species. Neat stuff!

I will send some to you, so you can enjoy the smell of dead crays along with the lingering scent of dead snails.

Since the crays are so young it is gonna be real hard to get a positive ID on them. As they molt they can radically change colors.

Although this maybe a good guess .... http://www.crusta10.de/templates/index.php?sideid=galerie&showpicture=845&galerie_id=134&lang_id=2&showid=154&katid=2

The blackwing damsels are gorgeous! Very nice photos and nice fat crays. The tweezer pics are hilarious!!! That's one reason I love crays, they're behavior is too funny.

Thanks! Yeah, that guy wasn't gonna let go, no way, no how. If I'd tried to pull him off, I would have popped his wee arms off! I wouldn't do that though, although I'm sure if LifelessForm had been there, he would have! Nomnomnom. :lol2:

Hahaha, he probably would have. I have praying mantids in my front yard that will cling to my camera lens and refuse to let go until I let them climb on top of it.
