Setup has a pH of a rock steady 7.6

LFS and some fish websites say "optimal" pH should be 6.6-7.0
to maintain red color.

Anyone here can say that is true based on real life experiences ?

I do not want to fiddle around with chemicals if I do not have to.

I have 3 blood parrots, 2 angels, a pictus, and a red sternella pleco in a 46 gallon. I keep my PH at 6.0 and my blood parrots are always brilliantly colored and happy, and of course the Angels love it. They are South American...what kind of south american mix no one seems to know. So anything on the low side of neutral (6.0-7.2) should be fine.

oh yeah and dont fiddle with chemicals. If your fish are doing fine and your ph is a little outside ideal, don't sweat it. You're going to stress them more with the chemicals or big changes than their little less than perfect PH. If you'd like to bring it down, try a filter bag full of peat moss in the filter. It'll bring it down SAFELY and naturally.
