my tank has so many plants that my nitrates are dropping. there are 20ppm nitrates coming straight out of my tap. im used to seeing 20-40ppm in my tank. i noticed that all of my fish have been acting really perky lately. my peppered cories have been bouncing all over the place. my rams have been spawning like machines. ive seen my otos. my plecos come out a lot as well and munch on stuff. my rummies hae brilliantly red faces. and my plants are friggin huge. so i got bored and tested just nitrates and my reading came out to 15ppm!

neat. now i have to keep an eye on it to keep it from dipping too low.

yeah...*sigh*

and i dont have a spare tank for trimmings...

I have the same issue with my tap water. After I planted some of my tanks, and the nitrates lowered,I also noticed a big difference in how the fish acted.Plants are the best way to lower nitrates IMO.
There awesome!

You dont have to worry about your nitrates getting too low.

In actuality, the lower the better, everyone can only dream of always having nitrates at 0.

Sounds like a happy tank! :)

I'd been battling(like most everyone else) for years. And now wondering if I'm going to have to buy some. LOL

You can just do a water change to get some! ;)

Some nitrates are good in a planted aquarium. You never want to have it at 0 since the plants use it.

10ppm is ideal in heavily planted tanks.

HA! i think my bf is getting a BIG tank, so i may be able to snage the empty 50 hex or possibly his old 75...

hmmmmmm
