i've been "cycling" this tank for almost two months now. no pics avail. so i'll try to describe it.

its a 50g about a third full half water, half land (mix of aquarium rocks and medium sized granite rocks). i have a fern, 3 venus flytraps, a 6" bamboo and recently introduced "organis free range pond scum". no vertebrates yet, just a few fly trap escapees ( a cricket and an earwig) and i think a snail must have hitched a ride with the pondscum.
so now the water is cloudy on top, i've expierenced this before but it seemed to dissapate. i've also noticed tiny circular "swimmers", possibly nitrosonomas?
i don't have a filter or a heater, just the light that came with the tank (purchaced off craigslist).
so where to from here... i want fish and maybe an amphibian. what are some hearty small fish, possibly ones that eat the junk on the glass and bottom. how about amphibians?
i know i'm a total noob so don't ream me here but any advice or guidence would bet great. i'll try to get pics...

I doubt the circular swimmer your seeing is nitrosonomas. Nitrosonomas is a bacteria. Unless Im wrong, please correct me. As for Amphibians, I really am a big fan of the Red Bellied Toads. I would probably put 5-7 of them in the 55 gallong tank. Then, I'd fill up the bottom of the tank with a group of schooling fish, such as cories. Though the cories will need to have some sand and it will look better. ANd since the Red Bellied Toads are semi-aquatic, they can live go to the water from time to time.

I think I want to try something like that in the future.

If you're going to be keeping fish or anything living that needs water you're going to want to get some sort of filtration, other wise you will find yourself throwing funerals for your little friends a lot.
