Convict and Bolivian Ram? Bloodbath or peacefulness?

Ok I am in the process still of setting up my 30gal Long tank. Yes it is a 30 long. The base is 36" x 12" by I think 16" or so. I currently have a 4" male convict that i am going to be keepin in the tank. I only want two fish so is a bolivian ram at adult size going to be ok or should I look at something a little bit larger in size???

In my opinion a Bolivian ram would not be ok with Convicts. It's mouth structure is not made for it to properly be able to defend itself against an aggressive cichlid.

I agree with snoopy I wouldnt put a ram with a convict.

Convicts are very territorial and make poor tankmates for anything other than fish larger than them. Even a pair will try to establish a pecking order and the weaker one may get killed.

what would be a more proper tankmate for the convict then. His name is domer and he is not going back to the store.

A firemouth might be a good option. It has about the same level of aggression & the sizes are similar.As a bonus the colors are alot different.

Your tank is too small for 6 but that is about the only way you can keep them. You might want to try a firemouth.

I was considering a firemouth as well. I just liked the coloring on the bolivian ram. I sure can settle for a firemouth though. Will a male firemouth and a male convict get along or should a introduce a female firemouth and run the risk of mating?
