How do you tell the difference between male and female Texas Cichlids....I have one in my tank that has changed its color halfway white/black indicating he is ready to spawn, but how do I determine a mate for him??

id like to know the exact same thing! I know Mojo has a breeding pair of the very close carpinte so maybe hell chime in for the both of us.

The female will have a more round blunt body than the male. Both fish will adapt this breeding color with the female a little more dramatic. In general fish of the same age the female will be smaller. My breeding pair is actually Carpinte not Texas...but close enough.

Females might also exhibit some blue/blackish shading on the upper part of the body (to each side of the dorsal).
