Okay, so I've been planning on getting this pond dug for a long time. I even have it marked out where to go. I've just been so busy that I can't find the time to do it. But, earlier this spring I bought some pond plants because I had been planning on getting the pond dug during the time that it would take for the plants to ship out to me. Things came up, and the pond project was postponed, and postponed again, and again. Now, it's been about 1-1/2 months since the plants came, and I've had them sitting in a 5g bucket. There was a night blooming lily, 3 water poppies, 3 water hyacinths, a couple water lettuce. The water hyacinth lived up to the reputation of a fast grower (listed as invasive in warmer southern states), and has been happily multiplying. Right away, I had given one of them to my friend who had just finished her pond.
A few days ago, I decided to move the water hyacinth into the pond since it had rained enough that there was about 3" of water sitting in it, and the bucket was very crowded. Fortunately, the lily and water poppies seemed okay, and I had been worried about them not getting enough sun or room. The very next day, one of my water hyacinth bloomed! I was shocked. I didn't even see the bud! Now I really will have incentive to get going on that digging, uhh. Not may favorite thing to do in July heat and mugginess. I'm in northern Wisconsin, and it gets so hot and humid this time of year.
