I have this gorgeous tree in my new backyard, but I can't figure out what it is! I'm hoping that an AC gardener can help me out.
The tree is about as tall as the house (gutter line), with lovely purple flowers (darker in the center, yellow stamen).
Pics (the last one is my sleepy princess!):

I believe that is a hibiscus.
Beautiful baby!

That was FAST! lol. Tips on care? I'm just a renter, but I would hate to kill this lovely tree.
...and thanks, she's the love of my life. :)

It does look like a hibiscus, however it could also be a variant of Rose of Sharon. Love he way you snuck in the pic of baby dancer. ;)

Rose of Sharon, def. We have one trimmed just like it. They are normally bushes, but can be trained into "trees"

its a rose of sharon i should know i'm sharon,..lol and i have many of them even traded some to snoopy,... btw snoop these are the colors you got,.. when they start to bloom,..
i have many 2-3ft high babies here at my place this past few years,.. not sure why but their here,.. just let it go and nature will take care of it,.. if really dry you can water it but just leave it by its self and it will be fine they can go aver a 100 years if insects don't get it,..
heck i even had one growing on my lawnmower deck???? it was 6 inches tall before i noticed it,..lol

Thanks guys! Rose of Sharon it is. I love that it's an easy tree. I'm not much for the great outdoorsy stuff; bugs are gross and itchy!

I too agree - Rose of Sharon, and they're about as hardy as a tree comes -- and they reproduce like crazy! I have tons (literally hundreds) of baby trees up on the hill where the adult trees are - and the flowers can make a mess once the drop. But they are very pretty this time of year!

I don't generally love this shrub but I put in two of them in a blue shade and they are really nice.
That is one adorable baby. Can we have more pictures of her!

I just want to kiss her cheeks with a hundred kisses and smell her neck. (I love the way babies smell.) I miss my grandbabies!

In my own defense, I was not wrong, just not specific.
The latin name for Rose of Sharon is: Hibiscus syriacus. :)

Good to know Kuch! I like Latin names, when I can remember them.
Rose of Sharon IS a hibiscus.
That does look a lot like a rose of sharon- could also be a mallow too though- they look quite similar.

isnt the rose of sharon in the same family as the hibiscus?
