Hello, I recently decided to help my daughter start a new community by buying her a beta fish. When that died in two weeks, but $50.00 later in equipment we decided to go full route with a 10g. Within two weeks we had a 2g, 5g, 10g and 15g tanks and all but two were fishless and cycling. We put two mollies in the 5 gallon. One committed suicide by swimming behind the thermometer and one pined away in his absence. 10g had 3 tetras. The black skirt got sucked into the filter within the first 2 weeks, but we still have two left. After 5 weeks filled the 15g tank with 7 male guppies. So far 4 have died. We added three mystery snails to deal with some algae and so far it seems stable. I am thinking about adding a few females to keep the males company, but am worried about spawning.

I love fish and I hate to see them die. If I can't keep guppies alive how can I hope for more advanced communities?

comments and suggestions are welcome.

Welcome to AC! Many of the fish you are purchasing have a history of coming from poor stock supplied to an LFS.

Make sure you have a good liquid test kit and also test your tap water. Start a thread in the Newbie FW forum giving as much detail as possible. Exactly how are you doing the fishless cycle? Using a good conditioner like Prime?
