Hi. I would like to get some type of shrimp for my 55 gallon. It is stocked with White Clouds, an Angel Ram, some Corys, and a Clown and Bristlenose Plec. I am assuming they would do the shrimp no harm. What is the best species for a beginner in the Shrimp world? Also, if the shrimp have babies will the other residents of the tank consider the babies a food source or will I end up with alot more shrimp Thanks in advance!

I think the stongest of the shrimp i've kept are the amanos. They really seem to hold their own. They get a bit agressive when they are near their end of life and huge, going after food and sometimes harrassing smaller fish... but they do a great job of scavenging and algae cleaning in general. The amanos will tolerate medications and water conditions that most of the other shrimp I've kept won't. The downside is that they will not reproduce in freshwater, or rather, if they do, the baby shrimp will not survive.

depending on your water conditions, I'd also suggest cherries, or the wild type "blue" shrimp.

Wow, they all sound good. I am not especially interested in them multiplying alto my tank is pretty lightly stocked so it could handle maybe a small colony. I am going to the local LFS that I trust and see which types they are offering. Thanks!
