I purchased a cral banded shrimp about 3 weeks ago. Since then I started seeing some of my smaller snails dead lying in the sand. At first i though somethig was wrong with the parameters but everything is near perfect. Several days ago I lost my box fish. He was the only fish in there at the time. He didn't look beat up at all just pale white lying on the bottom. Later that day I can home and my urchin was dead. All his spike were ripped out. Now today I found a dead turbo snail. He didn't seem beat up either. The remaining snails have burried themselves deep into the sand almost as if thier hiding. Tested again and everything is good. All my corals are fully opened and seem very happy. Anyone ever seen anything like this before? When I first putthe shrimp in he attacked my starfish but I haven't had any issues with his since then. I spot feed him krill at least twice a week. Any input would be great.

Could it have been the boxfish that caused the problem? Don't they release toxins into the water when they are stressed? Although it is a possibility the coral banded did all the carnage as well.

Some boxfish do release toxins if they are stressed when they die. The only reason I had him in the tank was because he was let over from my previous setup. As soon As i found him I did a large waterchange just to be safe and added carbon. The boxfish just died yesturday and the snails have been dieing for a while. The odd part is that it was one here and there until I lost the box and urchin in the same day. Not sure. Was thinking my galexea might have gotten the box as well. He has got some huge sweepers. Maybe it's just a variety of things. I'll be keeping a close eye on it. Everyone else seems to be doing just fine. I've got a torch, variety of shrooms, 2 types of xenia, a variety of zoos, 1 SPS, galexia, blasto and a few more. They all seem to being doing well. I might just have to leave this one as a mystery
