Kind of an off the wall question - will platy's interbreed? For example, suppose you had a male sunset, and a couple of females like a red wag and a blue, would they breed? If so, what kind of fry would you get?

Yes as they are still all the same species, Xiphophorus maculatus. You will get "mutts"...hard to tell exactly what will show up.
When a mommy platy and a daddy platy love each other very much....

Heck, not only will they interbreed but they'll cross with swordtails and variatus platys as well. In fact, any platy or swordtail you see in the LFS is a cross. That's why the male platys are so aggressive these days, and why the swordtails are so piddly small.

Same with mollies. The ones I see are too small to be latipinna and have too much finnage to be sphenops. They're all crosses.
