A general question for someone who has a red-tailed black shark.
Does he/she eat very much?? and what do you feed him?
I have had mine for about a month now and tried sinking pellets, frozen brine shrimp, flakes....but I never see him eating anything?
He looks very healthy so I am assuming he gets something but just curious.....
thanks in advance.

Hi,
I had one - and it too looked like it never ate but was a little piggy in reality. I found that if you turned out the lights after feeding then it came out and picked bits off that had landed in plants etc.
Mine loved frozen food. Bloodworm, emerald mix, dahpne anything like that. Also it ate algae wafers, that is if the clown loaches didnt get there first.
I can't wait till I get another one. My local fish shop has some in and they are teenytiny. They are still in quarenten till next weekend though :(

thanks....... are you thinking of getting another red-tail?
I would study up a little more on this fish. If the tank is less than a 33 gallon, you should NOT have more than 1 of this in the tank.
THey are very aggressive towards one another.
This is what I read recently.
Cheers!

Yep...I know. All my fish died so have just started it all again. :(
RTBS is next on the list, then clown loaches and an upside down catfsh.
If you have one on its own....thats fine. 2 or 3 will battle, 6 or 7 or more (like in the fish shop) then they are ok.
I think thats right :D

Mine died mysteriously, miss him. He picked on my black molly and was territorial, careful with other bottom dwelling fish.

Mine eagerly eats anything and everything. Flakes, granules, pellets, wafers. It especially likes frozen bloodworms and glassworms. They do need some veggies in their diet, also.(peas are good)

yep I call the one I inheirited with the tank I bought a poop machine so he must be eating lots of something... based on my prefferences in fish I am not to fond of him and will be taking him to a lfs with some of the other fish for credit when I can.

It's best that if you want to keep more than 1 shark in a tank, it should be several (6+), this is where you might see them get along. Keeping less is probably a disaster waiting to happen. Of course keeping 6+ would require a substantial size tank. So in general, keep 1 or keep several, never in between.
