Hey guys, about 2-3 weeks ago i bought a beautiful Blood Parrot, i named him BIG RED. Anyways i got him from a really top aquarium, that i always goto and get along really well with the owners and staff. I went in last weekend and they told me they have the mate to the parrot i had bought, but the reason she wasnt in the aquarium was because they had been in a tank with a red devil and she was badly attacked. They had been keeping her in a seperate tank trying to get her better and that she had been goin really well with her recovery, then i was offerd the chance of buying her. I was very happy to be gettin a pair of Blood parrots as i only found out about them the day i bought the first one 2-3 weeks ago and i think they are awesome fish. Anyways i went to pick her up as they said she was ready to be taken, but she did still look very bashed up. Now the poor girl does look bad, but she doesnt act like she is sick or hurt, she still swims around eating food and all. Althou ima bit worried as she has some black spots on her aswell as on her top fix and tail fin. Im not sure if these are bruising or stress related but i would like to find out as much as i can. I have some photos and she does still look very bad on eof her swimming fins is only just starting to grow back, one of her gills has been torn apart but that is healing very well. She has some large white patches on her, my geuss is scaring but you guys might be able to help me out with that also. Im droppin a few tiny seasalt crystals into the water, but i dont know how much or how little to put in aswell. And if any1 can give me any help with the whole situation it would be muchly appreciated.
Our female is named LADY RED.
But to that i woudl like to know how to tell males from females, as the female is larger then the male and we would like to know exactly if they are male and female.
Cheers guys and heres some pics.....

:welcome: back to AC!

The white marks are scraped skin with no mucous membrane on those areas. Do you have a water conditioner that promotes slime coat growth? If not, your best defense is daily water changes until the fish recovers. Do not handle that fish with your bare hands as much as possible to avoid secondary infections.

The black marks are often a sign of ammonia burns. Could you please tell us what your water parameters are? What test kit do you use? If you wish to add salt despite it being unnecessary, please be sure to dissolve it first before adding it. Remove your other fish and let the beaten fish heal without the interference of your other fish. Your other fish will only worsen its infections by nipping the wounds constantly. Do not increase your temperature. Maintain it at 76 degrees Fahrenheit as most bacterial infections progress quickly in warm environments.

the fish looked like that when we got her, we have only had her 3 days now.

Ive never had a problem with the water in my tank... so ive never had to chek "parameters"
So unfortunatly i have to ask what that is.......
If its the PH, which i do chek often that normally sits up between the 7.0 and 7.8
I was told to put the salt in by the poeple who were making her better, n as i stated they said she looks 10 times better then she did a week ago.

And i must say she is the one goin at my other fish, the other parrot just follows her around, the pleco minds his own business and yeh the hurt parrot chases the pecock i have.
