Ok i have 2 african dwarf frogs in my aquarium. I feed them freeze dried blood worms usually and they eat them great...but here's the problem...the other fish eat the blood worms too! And they LOVE them. Every time i try to put the blood worm in the tank for the frogs, the fish are all over them before the frogs can get a chance. i have tried feeding the fish first, and then the frogs, but the fish still eat them no matter how much they have already eaten. I have even tried waiting until the frogs com to the surface...but the fish are like vultures and eat them first. Is there another food option that i can try with the frogs? something that sinks maybe? i am really scared that they are not getting enough food. Could some one please help me out? Thanks!

Try using a riser tube. The frogs will learn that the food comes out of the riser tube, and swim into it. Other options--get a divider that you can use to keep the fish on one side away from tehe frogs during feeding, or move the frogs into another tank completely. You're right to be worried--dwarf frogs can't compete well for food with a bunch of fast fish.

I use a small syringe that I used to use to give my hamster/kittens their medicine (I got clean ones, of course...from the vet). Then you suck up the bloodworms and push them out right at the frogs mouth/feet. I also have used a turkey baster which seems to work well considering you can just squeezee it rather than having to deal with pushing the syringe through.
My frogs have learned that the worms come shooting out of the tube:) Also, if you put a little cave in for them (which they like anyway) and put the worms in there, I've found that the fish don't usually find them.

This is just one reason that frogs don't do good mixed in with fish. Try feeding the frogs with a pair of tweezers or try the turkey baster like another poster commented on. Good luck.

i have the same problem with my spiny eels. i use a medicine dropper...intended for babies...to deposit black worms and brine shrimp directly into their mouths, more or less. they've learned to suck them right out of it. if you squirted worms in front of your frog, he'd be winning at the eating part of life fo sho.

Dethjam--you may want to give the riser tubes a try. I used them for my spiny, and he learned to swim up it--would get very excited whenever he saw me bring the tube to the tank. Worked very well.
