I just recently set up a shrimp tank with eco complete as a substrate. Little did I realize my ph is around 7.3 which is too high for CRS. Is it ok to add a little Amazonia substrate to it? Supposedly it helps lower ph which I need to raise CRS.

ADA is meant for lowering, as to doing anything harmful with eco-complete being in the same tank I doubt it.

I haven't heard that before cause a lot of people who breed crystals/tigers etc use ADA soil just because of the ph/softness property. Also I think I also read SOMETHING I think it was the softness that decreases the amount of nitrates produced. I have yet to use ADA soil but that last sentence seems to have stuck in my mind if it is indeed true.

ADA aquasoil will release ammonia at the beginning. If it is used for a new tank setup, 4 weeks is need to get all bacterias established. If you add ADA soil into an existing tank, I think there will still be an ammonia spike period. Do more water change, and watch out ammonia, no2, no3 reading.

I guess you use tap water? Try to use RO water, otherwise, your addon ADA soil will lose its buffering capability sooner than later, depending on how much soil you put in.

i just put in fluval peat granules into the eco complete instead of adding amazonia. R/O water is too expensive for me right now because I've spent so much on my tanks already -_-. Just hoping the peat will soften the water!
