I was reading that some people change their incadescent bulbs to cfl lighting. I wrote in another post about possibly buying a aqua tech/regent aquarium from Walmart. The 29 gallon comes with fluorescent lighting (long tube type) and the 38 gallon comes with incadescent lighting (I believe I saw 4 bulbs on the front of the box).

Can I easily screw in four low wattage cfl lights into the sockets or do I need to modify? What wattage would you recommend? I couldn't see the canopy since the box was sealed.

If if it helps I have neons, cardinals in my tank, plus cories, ottos, and a few live plants (anubis, amazon sword)

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your help!

I do have a question though..

The 38 gallon takes four incandescent lights in the canopy. So if I put 4 cfl bulbs that are equal to 60 watt each, that would be too much light?? Wouldn't that overload the circuit or be too bright? Or should I just put two bulbs in at each end. I'm not sure of the configuration of where the bulbs since I couldn't see the canopy (sealed in box)

These throw enough light for live plants such as anubis and marble queen amazon swords?

Okay, thanks :)

So you don't go by the conversion just the cfl wattage? And do these bulbs provide enough light for plants to grow such as amazon's, anubis etc? How much wattage would you recommend for a 38 gallon? The canopy takes up to 4 bulbs. Thanks!
