green stuff on barbs deadly? :(

my two tiger barbs got green stuff all over them. if it was on the tank i would think its algae. i just changed the filter but i havent cleaned the tank in a while, though i have an algae eater. can anyone tell me what this is and how to treat it. i think they've had it for a while but they have been acting ok so i havent taken much notice. i really really need some help.

I'll just quote what I said in the PM...;)

fish will develop coloration over time and will not show their best when in the LFS. Unless their behavior is unusual its because they are in fact "green" tiger barbs.
