so i have some java fern tied to a piece of driftwood and its doing quite well... but i was wondering if there was any way to minimize seeing the roots? the roots have grown in proportion with the plant, and its very unsightly, and after seeing pictures on here and elsewhere with java fern tied to driftwood without visible roots, i was wondering how people did that? do you trim the roots off? tie it back on the driftwood?

I think tying the roots onto the driftwood would allow the java fern's roots to adhere to the driftwood, therefore making the roots become visually, part of the driftwood. You could trim the roots, but I think it looks nicer visually when the roots are wrapped around and sticking to the center piece; whether it be driftwood, rocks, etc. Good luck! :)

i tie the plants to the back half of the wood so the roots aer on the back. you can trim them up to look better , or find to go in front of them to cover them up.

I would just trim the roots. I personally prefer all of the hanging roots though.
