Will 6 clown loaches be ok in a 90 gallon aquarium for say a year or so? When I buy them they'll be like 2- 2.5 inches. Thanks

They should be ok long term if there aren't too many other fish in the tank.

What other fish are you keeping them with?

-12 Tiger barbs
-9 Giant danios or 15 Zebra danios
-6 Clown loaches
-1 Red tailed shark

Any problems with this selection? I'll probably up grade to a 6 foot tank in a year or so.

ps. whats the best fish store in edmonton? Big al's?

I'd lose the red tail shark....Otherwise...should be good....

I would also suggest you get rid of the RTS. The clowns have a similar body type to the red tail and the red tail might chase the clown (especially when they are young). I would think that a 90 would be good for 6 clowns especially if you plan to upgrade in a few years. Most reports are that the clown are slow growing, although the dominate one of the group will grow twice as fast as the others.

How about I swap the rts with another clown loach, making it 7 clowns. Also are clowns compatible with small fish like zebra danios ?

yes they will work with the clowns.

dean- Here is Edmonton the best store is dad's fishroom, they have hands down the nicest fish. I have never had any of the fish i bought from there die. PLus henry and gillian are very nice and know alot about fish. Check out www.dadsfishroom.com

Big al's is where i by most of my supplies but i dont' really buy many fish there unless they have somethign i can't get anywhere else. Micheal Pham is the fish Manager guy there and is very helpful and nice to talk to . He is also one of the executives of the aquarium club.

What sort of fishare you looking for? If you are looking for clowns then i would sa dad's fishroom has thenicest healthiest ones i have ever seen. But Warf has good looking ones too that are a bit cheaper(sometimes)

My RTS doesnt even look at my loaches...I wouldn't worry about it much..especially since clowns can grow over twice the size of the biggest RTS. Just buy the clowns around the 2-3" size and the Shark the same...introduce the clowns first, letting them establish themselves..then add the shark. Even so, most clowns are more than able to defend themselves and I would think they could do more harm to the shark than the other way around.

I agree with Slappy*McFish. I added 3 clown loaches about 2 weeks prior to the RTS. They were all about the same size (under 2 inches - I couldn't find them any larger). Sadly, 2 of the loaches didn't make it. In the following weeks, the loach has grown with the RTS and is clearly more dominant. The loach and the RTS are inseparable, though I know it's because he's looking for a companion.

I need to find several larger loaches but in the meantime, they get along fine. It's been about 3 months and the RTS is approx. 4" while the loach is just under 3.

i think i'm experiencing something emoore mentioned -i bought 3 clowns for my 55 they were real small bout an inch n a half -a month or so has gone by n two of them are not much bigger - then third 3rd one is growing like crazy!!! he twice as big as the other ones!!! i guess he is the dominate one? they all get along great though- what woul cause the other two to grow slower even if the big one is the alpha one?

In the past, I too have had trouble mixing RTS and clown loaches.
