hi
yesterday our betta male Yoshi moved to his new home, a 50g planted tank.
we were looking forward in seeing him explore his new world, but so far all he does is swim up and down, or hover of the backwall.
could it be he is seeing himself in the reflexion (we have a blue background on the outside of the glass).
will he get bored with his reflexion or will this go on forever.
he looks beautiful though, puffed up all the way to impress (himself).

anyone experience with betta's and reflecting aquariumwalls?

thanks

He sounds like a normal Betta to me. When I first transfered my Betta from his 10g home to his 20g community tank he did the same thing. He never used to flare in his 10g tank, but in the 20g he occasionally flares at his reflection. It's always in the same spot- Left side, back, next to the filter.

My guy has adapted well to his new home and he is always exploring. He used to go up and down the sides of the wall a lot, but now he seems more interested in going under driftwood, investigating the java moss, and begging for food whenever I open the hood. I love my little guy :).

Seems like perfectly normal behavior to me. Bettas can be a little screwy. :screwy:

Mine does that every now and then, but it tends to be in passing the right side of the tank. He likes to swim through the Hygro and sleep in the Ambulia. Even my Kuhlis sleep in the Ambulia... :D

My Betta used to have a figure 8 patrol route he would do every so often when he was in a 2.5 gallon tank.

thanks, Yoshi is feeling at home

thanks you all

he is doing very well at the moment and has his 'friends' back with him: the tank is finished cycling and since monday all the occupants are in.
looks amazing.

Gorgeous betta!

This might not be the same, but puffer keepers notice that when they introduce a puffer to a new tank or rearrange the decor, puffers often "pace the glass" for a while. They seem to be stressed for a bit and then start exploring and settle in. This sometimes also occurs when they are bored. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same sort of thing.
