how long?

I have some crypts that have melted in my tank. How long do I wait for them to come back? Weeks? Months? If I forget where they are did I suck them up when I gravel vac'ed & they're not coming back 'cause they're gone? Or did I just bury them too deep when I did that? Should I dig them up to see how they're doing or leave well enuff alone? What is the most influential parameter for them to get used to? In other words if I can't match all the factors to the tank they came from what is it most important to try to match? PH?, KH, GH, temp, light intensity/spectrum, ??? Any ferts that seem to help? It's kinda discouraging to take a big healthy-looking plant & watch it turn to mush. :wall:

crypts usually only melt if you move them or a huge change in the water parameters, what changed for them to melt?
they will come back in a few weeks, i cut some down to nubs last week and have new growth already in a loooow light no ferts tank.
