Thanks guys! Yea, he had an overgrown beak when we got him at school; he was our class pet (along w/ another tortoise) and I'm taking care of them over the summer. As for inspiration...irony? lol, don't worry, the treadmill wasn't on.

If you use a piece of slate to feed him on, it will help naturally wear the nails (which are also over-long) and beak down. It is a very common problem with captive tortoises. An experienced tortoise vet can also trim them with a dremel, it costs me $18 to have my rescue torts done.
