Since about 10 days I noticed my fish got a big mouth and hasn't eat anything also hiding in rocks. so I guessed that she's holding eggs. I separate her alone in 6 GL tank.
in the first days her mouth looked like this pic:

but now:

Is my fish holding eggs or she swallowed them ??
what about if I catch her with net and make sure of it?? is that something bothering my fish???
note: when I put her in the small tank I found her make holes in substrate and looking to the male in main tank under her tank

why does she do that??

Looks like she has swallowed Dude...or maybe spat the eggs out?
If they are young/small/inexperienced they may swallow. Also, maybe if they are a little stressed. Looking at the pic, she still seems young though, how big is she?
Mine look through the bottom at other fish when seperated, I wouldn't worry about that.

Sometimes it takes a few tries before they get it right. Is she eating?

Don't worry about not eating. She will when she realizes she has no fry to brood. Mine never got it right so I strip the young only when I have an order for them. Otherwise I leave it up to Mother Nature.

Don't mean to switch topics in this thread, but I read your tank set-up and I think your a bit overstocked... not sure about the gourami and cichlids together, have you noticed any aggression/nipping issues? I think the rainbow sharks get relatively large as well. You may need to upgrade soon (for your other tank, as well).

I'll gave her another chance till 2morrow, if I see any changes in her mouth brooder, I'll keep her by itself. if not :( she'll move to the main tank :'(
Thannks excu for ur helping

never mind dude, at first of setup this tank I was worrying from that. but I saw a chart shows that the compatibility between gourami and yellow labs is middle. so I decided to put gourami with cichlids.
what is surprising that sometimes I saw gourami try to attack cichlids, as well I feel gourami is more happy with cichlids than goldfishs and angels.
thanks Lexi for advice :)

10 days is a little too long, even for a female who held.
Does she take food and spits it out or doesn't touch it at all?

Try to fish it out, open its mouth and look inside. Could've gotten spooked or something and swallowed some eggs, but not all.
^ That's what I was thinking, ibr3ak!

I am worrying if I do that she'll get more stress. because fishing her isn't easy at all.
what do u think?

Yeah i would leave her in the main tank and strip her when it is time to strip.. i would never pull her out of a main tank and place her in a small setup like 6gal that in itself is enough to stress her and allow her to swallow or spit..
If you want to place her in a different tank for rearing of fry i would do no less than a 20gal tank by herself no others.. If this is not an option than keep her in the main tank and beef up the rocky retreats to allow escapes from aggression..

My holding females always stay in the main tank. I have enough females though that the males don't worry about the one that is holding. The one time I did strip a female I waited until she was holding for about 3 weeks then I stripped the fry.

It was my first try in breeding these kind of fish, so I didn't know anything about it.
thanks all I'll move here now.

Hows the water quality in your rearing tank. Fish eggs need clean low metabolite water to develop and hatch-even if they are in their mother's mouth. Transfer the mother back to your breeding aquarium and be sure your rearing tank can sustain good water quality before she spawns another brood. Also some mouthbrooders tend to spit or swallow their eggs if they are transferred to a rearing tank to early. Some recommend waiting 3 to 10 days before transferring a holding female from one tank to another. I have waited a full two weeks before and still had good results. This option is only good if you have a sufficient number of other females for your male to court and have no other fish that will cause her to abort her brood. Good luck. I know you will be successful in this endeavor.:sim:

I found out if you just let mother nature do her thing, you will end up have many offspring.
I just make sure their is plenty of hiding places, like layers of flat rocks, a stack of donut coral and lots of fake plants.
I have generations of fish now. It is survivor of the fittest.
Good luck

^ Good advice Schneider (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/member.php?u=99018) , and welcome to AC :)
I would also suggest catching a holding female at night, a few hours after all of the lights have been turned off, when they're in that "zombie" state. I've had more success doing it this way, even transferring females on day one of holding, without any losses.
I've also done a little experiment with my latest yellow lab that held, I've transferred her to a qt tank and stripped her early (12 days into it), to see how long it'll take for the fry to deplete their eggyolk. It is almost gone today, but will completely disappear tomorrow (day 17 exactly), they're already swimming all over the holding box and are eating the crushed pellets.

tdoyle (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/member.php?u=88468) welcome as well :),
I'd let the female release if I don't care about saving all of the fry, besides hiding places you'll also need to worry about filter intakes (unless you mesh it up) and such, and it's a biznitch to try and catch an inch fry in a big tank :)

Hi. If it's been ten days past, the eggs (if good) must have hatched by now. The female may have been stressed when she was transferred and caused her to spit the eggs out. Or, the eggs were not fertile and were swallowed. There are also other reasons for the female to lose a brood. Just be patient.

Oohh guys really you are awesome all of u
thanks a lot for this amazing support and helping. in the next time of breeding I'll be more careful of all what I did wrong this time.
now I back her in the main tank, obviously she was very hungry, she ate a lot :p:. so I am sure now she hasn't no longer eggs in her mouth.
