I just ordered 10 RCS. I'd like to put them in my 10 gallon with the dwarf puffers, it's heavily planted enough that I think they'd be ok. But in case they're not, I was thinking about putting some of them in the 5 gallon to breed, so I'd have some more. Or just keep them in the 5 til they're full grown, and add adults only to the 10 gallon, leaving some left to breed. Can you easily tell male from female? Anything specific I'd have to do to get them to breed? And how long does it take for them to reproduce?

You may want to go with putting them in the 5 Gallon to reproduce a bit and then put some in with the puffers and see how they do. I would almost think the puffers would call them lunch, but i don't know for sure. RCS breed pretty fast, so you should have plenty in no time. My shrimp tank is pretty densly planted and has lots of moss. They pretty much just breed like rabbits, i haven't done anything really special with mine and have had plenty. In my experience, the males are alot less red and also smaller then the females. My females get insanely red and grow bigger then the males.

I'd say let them either grow or not put any in the 10, any fish bigger than the shrimp will chase it even with cover.

Males are smaller and less red when comfortable in there environment

Females are bigger and more red, it takes them a couple days to get full color back after shipping, and once females are sexually mature you'll see a red sack behind there head, thats the ovaries or something, and when they breed, she will move the eggs over under her tail and like fan them until they hatch about 2-3 weeks later
