Hi everyone,

So I bought a Marineland Eclipse System 12g Kit last year and today, the filter stopped working. Don't know when, how, why it stopped working.. I wanted to ask for your help first before going out to the store. What's the best thing to do at this point? Buy a new filter? If so, which one do you recommend? It's one of those 3 stage bio wheel filters I believe. I've enclosed a picture. Hope someone gets to read this! I didn't know who else to turn since no one in my family knows a thing about fish stuff.

Thanks!

Good odds it's easily repairable. My bet would be a clogged impellar tube or intake tube. Hot water and elbow grease will fix that.

If not, I have an old eclipse 12 that got a crack in the tank, so the other parts are all good... if you want the pump, or the whole top unit or whatever make an offer...

Now to the fun remote diagnosis!

When it is plugged in, does it make any noise?

What is the water level in reference to the outlet port?

Have you looked at the impellar?

Have you tried running it without the intake tube?

Are you running it in salt or fresh? (I just saw that this is posted in the marine section, so nevermind)

A HOB filter of a different brand is a very reasonable solution, however, it will leave you with an interesting puzzle on your hands. You will need to figure out how to make it and the hood work with the support brackets on the tank, or build a new hood and custom support brackets.

Welcome... one thing about those marineland systems... they are hard to kill, because they are a really simple design.
