Hello, I am upgrading my 29 gallon tank to a 120 gallon and am debating what fish to get, Right now I have 2 Silver Dollars(4"), 2 Praecox Rainbow(2"), 2 Zebra Danios(1.5") and 2 Columbian Sharks(6"). I should be getting 3 Red Hook Silver Dollars in pretty soon. I have been debating getting some Clown Loaches or Corys. I just can't make up my mind. Does any one have any suggestions on which one might be better? Any other stocking suggestions are appreciated also. Thanks

Wow. In that large of a tank you can get about a zillion corys. That would be so awesome to have a large school in your tank!

Aren't rainbows schoolers? I'd get at least 8 of them for a good school. IMHO, a school shouldn't have less than 15, but you can get by with 8.

Personally, I'd get some type of pleco, but that's just me. ;)

Since you've only listed cories and clown loaches, I would go with the cories. At least 15 of them since you've got such a nice big tank. I would get some skunk cories, I think, but you could do any of them or a combination. I believe that they will swim together even though they are not the same type. Not sure on that since I've never kept cories.

I would get corys and keep like 20+ of them. They would be really awsome in that kind of shoal. My lfs has 50 in a 720 and they are purely awsome. I will post a vid on what they do in the wild if kept in sufficient numbers. just click the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWIVCdLOImw

At first, I thought you were saying you wanted a clown loach for your 29 gal.:wall: Then I finished reading... I would go with the clown loaches, but keep in mind you should prolly have 6 or so... I am not actually sure if a 120 will be big enough for them. What's the footprint?

In a 120 gal, why not get both?
You could get 3-4 clown loaches and a school of cories.

Are the columbian sharks going in the 120? They could easily eat the cory, also you are going to have some conflict, the sharks are brackish and require higher brackish as they age.

I would also add some more rainbows and danios, they like being in groups.

cories

Hey Redkahuna.....tell us how you really feel! LOL!

I think you could do both too. Get a nice group of around 20 cories, all the same type and 3 or 4 clowns.

I thought Columbian Sharks were brackish fish. Maybe I was wrong?
Anyway, my Loaches could out compete my Corys for food any day of the week, I'd stick to one or the other. I love em' both, if someone told me I could only have 1 or the other in 1 tank I'd have to get 2 tanks :-)

Cute pic CLB! I have clowns and albino cories without issues. Albino cories are extremely active and entertaining, out in the front of the tank all the time, moving, moving, moving!

I'm pretty new to this and haven't kept loaches but I picked up 4 Corys for my 10 gal about two weeks ago and I love them. they are highly active (not like other cats I've seen) the way they dart up to the top of the tank in the blink of an eye is very cool. they are much faster than I would have thought.

They do best in BW and should be moved to marine conditions as adults.

I was in the same situation. I wasn't sure if I wanted Cories or CLs. I ended up getting Cories. And I'll be honest...I should've gone for the CLs. I've had CLs before and they were quite active all over the tank and were a tight school while my current Panda Cories stay in the back and don't really school and tight as I thought they would.

Normally, I'd say cories, they are my fav. But with your fish list, and since your not keeping snails, I'd say clown loaches!!!
