So my mediumly planted aquarium (heavily planted by some standards) finally is given the proper lighting for maximum plantness. I just bought the Aqualight 65 watt for my 29 gallon aquarium.

My plants can thank me later.

Pics probably later on tonight.



Question...

How long should I have the new 65 watt on per day, considering its lighting a 29 gallon?

I had 65 watts over a 29, a had it on 8 hours a day. But when I first set it up, I had a major hair algae problem, that went away as things balanced out, so I had it only maybe 5-6 hours during that time.

are you dosing ferts? co2? excel?
i dose dry ferts daily on 2 29g with the same lighting and do 7-8 hours max.
you dont want to go more than that unless you have pressurized co2

as stated above 8-10hrs is good to start out with. Also with that lighting co2 would be important.

I'm pouring ferts in, but I plan to get the drop in kind that sink to the bottom.

No CO2.

How much does that cost?

And I thought $120 was too much to spend today!

On a tank this size i would suggest pressurized. You can get a whole kit for $120-185 range (co2 tank + regulator)
