I am thinking of buying a guys tank off of craigslist that he offered me since I'm looking for a tank. -- It is a 75 gallon with a small wrought iron stand- I will attach pic-- he also build his own custom light fixture, which consists of eight 40w T-12 48" tubes- is that good?
He says he has 80lbs of live sand in it, a 300W heater, a hob filter which to me looks like a marineland Bio-wheel filter--
He also has a CPR overflow box and a 30g sump tank with Plexiglas baffles in it and all the pumps for it to work.
There is also a small chip which should lower the price a little but I don't think will cause any problems in leaking. - It's very minuscule and only about 2" from the top of the tank.
What kind of price range do you think would be good to offer for all this stuff? It looks pretty old/ a little beat up but it all looks like it could be put to good use!-- Any ideas?
Thanks a ton!!!
Just my opinion, but if it were me looking for a setup I would definately PASS on that one. Too many things wrong from the start for me to want to try and mess with it. Even it is were free, I would still have to pass just because of the work that is going to be involved getting it up and running good. I would rather invest my $ in new equipment... but that is just what I would do. If you think you can make it work for you then offer what you think is fair.. which to me would be around $200 max and that is mainly just for the Mag12 pump and CPR overflow box.. the rest of the stuff would end up in the dumpster if it were me getting it.

I agree with Ace. I usually dont mind the work, But it just seems like once you buy it you will run into alot of problems. I would be especially careful considering you are buying a used tank... and you cant exactly take it back for a refund....
I would look for another tank, one in better condition.

I bought my 75g a few years ago on craigslist. Just for reference:
Oceanic 75g with overflow
Oceanic Cherry Stained stand, good condition
20g Sump (real sump, not DIY) w/ integrated skimmer
1 Quiet1 900gph pump (good condition)
1 rio pump (for skimmer)
8x54w T5 HO 48" lighting fixture with 8 good bulbs. (new)
I paid $800. Mostly for the light and because of the quality of the equipment. You can't get a much better tank than an Oceanic and it has server me well without problem ever since. Well worth it imo.
I would also pass. Find a better deal. Spend a little on it, you will save money in the long run I assure you.

I have a new offer on craigslist this is the only info I have but it seems pretty legit- 75 Gallon aquarium, stand, light (less than a year old 4x T5 bulb), skimmer, filter, 4x maxijet powerheads, wavemaker timer, and lots of extras. This is everything you need to get a reef going but the salt, water, fish and rocks. I can also include coral pieces once you have the system set up and running. he's asking $200 though I might offer a bit less.
I'm asking for pics to see what it looks like-- does that sound like a pretty good deal?

I hate used crap. People offer cheap stuff either because they bought the wrong stuff or have butchered it so badly that its not worth the money. You can apply this comment definetly to the first photo. Just remember "cheap aint good and good aint cheap.

Dont use HO filters on a salt tank - they de stabilize the water via salt creep.
