OK, 44g tall (pentagonal) tank. I have an aquaclear 70 HOB filter and a Maxi-jet 900 with a sponge.

1) Is this going to be enough flow for shrooms, zoas, and fishes of various kinds?

2) Is this enough filtration with about 70 pounds of live rock?

3) Should I direct the flow of the maxi towards the surface for gas transfer or down for flow in the tank?

4) Should I use the air intake system at all?

Thanks

1. Yes, but barely. Recommend at least another Koralia of some type to add to the flow.

2. Yes

3. Something you have to play with, but your HOB should create enough surface aggitation that you shouldn't have to direct a powerhead towards the surface.. but it doesn't hurt either as long as you have enough flow in the tank, which for softies isn't all that much.

4. Air, as in Air pump/stone? No. Only if your doing a sealed top and no sump should air be considered. It can actually do harm to fish (the air bubbles) and stress them out so I wouldn't only do it as a last resort and if you know for certain you have a low ORP (oxygen in laymens terms) level.
