Overall a decent read for beginners/moderate level experienced ram keepers. I don't agree with several statements/points in the thread. Namely, the GH does not have to be as low as they claim. I agree that a high GH could possibly harden the eggs, but I have had F5 GBR's x Golds and 50% wilds spawn for me with a great deal of success. My water has a pH of 8.0, and a GH of 300+ ppm. My 50% wilds would routinely have massive spawns (425+ eggs each time, and yes I counted with the help of photoediting software). The fertility was also over 95% on all of their spawns.
Another thing to add is that nearly all of the time the unfertilized eggs do not fungus, rather they are consumed by bacteria that happens to looko like a fungus. I agree that hydrogen peroxide is great to add to the water to prevent this. I add a half capful to a capful per 1/2 gallon every 12 hours. Methylene blue is about useless when it comes to being an antifungal agent. Acriflavin/malachite green is the way to go if not using hydrogen peroxide.
