Can anyone give me a suggestion on feeding my cherries? I have them in a 20 long with a few assassin snails, one otocinclus and some out of control bladder snails. I would estimate that I have 70-100 rcs currently in the tank. I've been giving them about 4 veggie sticks (ken's fish) twice a day. Is this to much? not enough? What do you think? Should I just feed them once per day? The tank is planted with vals, java fern, java moss, echinodorus and a water lily.

First, you need to take care of that out of control bladder problem! JK I feed mine flake. I just toss a pinch in the morning and evening. But I have mystery snails in with the shrimp so they eat anything left over. You might want to think about getting a least 2 more Otos. They are much happier in groups.

i agree, I feed mine sticks as well thow, and I would say if your bladder snails (pond snails) are getting larger , thats a sign of overfeeding . I agree to get a few more oto's , and throw in a brigg or 2 . then yes only feed one time a day . you could put in 2 sticks in the am, and 2 sticks at night time. but the shrimp can go for a few days with NO food , they eat of the moss, and substrate as well . I would slow your feeding WAY down for a few weeks, let the tank get really clean with weekly W/C and gravel vac when needed. then maybye give a small (few) flake in the am, and then at night 2 sticks . I think that would be plenty for yrou 70+ shrimp . they like to grase' every plant and ESP moss in the tank, so they eat all those micro organisms' as well . So dont worry too much about underfeeding . But you have found the breeders secret to rcs. for some reason they breed alot better in a snail infested overfed tank . LOL~~ just get 2 more oto's , and a mystery snail (brigg) or 2 , to help clean up the waste. Good luck and HTH ~~

thanks! I'll get some more oto's asap? How about cory cats? I've heard they are good with leftover food?

cories are great for cleaning up leftovers and are the cutest bottom feeders out there, but you have to make sure your bioload won't be too large for your tank size. you could have 6 or so in that size tank and have no worries on overstocking. they do prefer a planted tank from what i've experienced.

Cories like a lot of plants to hide in. (At least mine seem to). They are great when you have 6 or more!

I feed my cherries everything I feed to my fish (as long as it is sinking). Between them and the spixi snails they really seem to chow down.
