Hey guys and gals I havent switched over to sand yet but did ask my LFS about sand when the guy presented Eco-Complete African Cichlid Substrate to me... he said you dont even have to clean it you just dump it in.... has anyone used this stuff? I always clean the substrate, no matter what the manufacturer claims.

Well, I have in my 55gal mbuna tank the Eco-Complete African Cichlid Substrate labeled as Ivory Coast Sand. When I bought it a year ago, I just added it into the tank without cleaning it. These EC African Cichlid substrates are sealed with some water inside and supposed beneficial bacteria already. So, I just dumped it in the tank and added water to fill the tank. I have to say that the tank cycled quickly and that the substrate works great, keeping the high pH and hardness that African Rift Lakes cichlids need to thrive.

Yeah i bought Caribsea before and it too has water in it already and all i do is add the substrate without rinsing pretty much a faster cycle is what i experienced..
