I was tired of stirring up the sand and plants in my aquarium whenever doing water changes, so I came up with this...
100984
It's a piece of 1-inch diameter acrylic pipe from the LPS with about a dozen or so 1/8-inch holes drilled into it about 3-4 inches from one end. The pipe is put into a 3-inch terra cotta flower pot purchased from Home Depot. The pipe is filled with gravel just short of the lowest outlet holes. The gap between the pipe and the pot is also filled halfway with gravel, plants are inserted, and then more gravel is added to fill the pot and secure the plants.
The top of the pipe sticks about a half an inch above the water's surface.
When water is added into the top of the pipe, it shoots out horizontally from the small holes in an even, diffused, gentle flow.
And it does double duty as a planter/salad bar.
