They're awesome little fish. I've got 3 hara cats in my 30 blackwater. Rarely seen, but always a treat when they appear. If you look really carefully you can often see them nestled in the anubias leaves. Really interesting lil guys!

ive got 5 coming to me next week, they look neat but i read they are very shy and hide alot. bought them in a mixed lot auction for cheapo and hope they make it here ok.
can they be the housed with corys cats ? i wouldnt think not but want to make sure before i put them with a trio.

I have mine in a blackwater community. They do fine. Nocturnal feeders with small mouths though so feed accordingly.

what do you feed them? i hear other saying they wont eat for them and they hide all the time and are never seen.

I believe they are also sometimes called "mini moth", "anchor" and "Asian stone" catfish. I have been trying to get some for my nano tank and the local LFS guys all look at me like I'm nuts, I don't think to many people have heard about/come across them, even in the trade. I am jealous. I would love to see more pictures.

i got 5 today and they look pretty wild. the bottom of them looks like no other catfish ive seen before it has a cupped shape like it could stick to the glass with its body. they look like a cross between a cory cat and a pleco but alot more fins.
they have the smallest eyes ive ever seen on a fish to.
ill post pics in a bit when the camera battery comes back up. there hiding some but coming out a little now and slowly swiming around. ive never see them for sale much thats why i bought them when i could.

They are sexy little guys. I am hoping that sooner or later my three will have some babies, but so far nothin. I am going to order probably two-three more later this month.
THey should eat blackworms no problem. Mine used to eat only at night, but every now and then I see them come out for a day feed as well.

i read on planetcatfish they get 1.2" max size and these are 1" 1/4 " now so i wonder if there adults or not.

Great pictures! Are they quite small, I think I read they get to about an inch and a quarter? What size tank do you have them in? And all five made it, that's great! Now I am really jealous.

Yeah, they are most likely adults. I am not to keen on ID-ing Erethistes(some are now claiming they are members of the Erethistes genus as opposed to Hara), but just be aware that there are several species that look similar to one another. They all seem to have similar care requirements

Cyclopeeze, mysis, daphnia, blackworms, would all make good choices. To be honest, I have never once seen a single one eat, but they've made it for a few months now at least, and don't seem to be losing weight so the assumption is that they're getting food from somewhere. IMO, I doubt they would take prepared foods, but never having seen them eat, I can't say for sure.

Most catfish, even tiny ones, will eat anything even remotely edible. I just won an aquabid auction for some different Hara catfish, real monsters that grow to 2". I'm thinking NLS Grow pellets, microworms, and frozen bloodworms should suit them pretty well.

i see them going around and look like there cleaning leaves like the ottos do. i have corys in that tank and threw an algae wafer in there for them, say the hara cat go to the food and swim off, im guessing there about like ottos they eat whatever they find.

Nice pics. They look a bit like "talking" catfish (Doradidae family) with the funky bony plates. Predatory catfish usually have longer barbels, and the shape of their mouth is different as well. These guys look more like opportunistic scavengers or micropredators. Decapped brine shrimp would also be a good food for them.
I ordered 18 of the other Hara cats, planning to place them in groups in 2 different tanks. One tank has pea-size gravel, the other one sand. I'm figuring on breeding them, and want to see which setup works out better. I imagine both the eggs and the fry will be tiny, probably similar to Synodontis lucipinnis/petricola.

THere are probably multiple species of hara catfish. You can sometimes find bright orange specimens if you are lucky.

they seem to hide alot but i do see them in the tank often during the day sitting on plants in the open and on the back glass. i notice in the morning they were all sitting in the huge aubertii i have.
they move really slow though i have noticed they dont fly around the tank, there like snakes glidding through the plants or cows grazing the field lol
