I've had this sword for a year or two now, and it's gone from regular sized sword, to abused and small.

It's been tiny for about 2/3 of the time I've had it.

I recently upgraded my lights and now these tiny leaves that were sprouting on either side of it have turned into (what I think are) swordlets.

I dont know if they're ready to be removed.

They have 3-4, 2'' roots on them, and they look like they could be planted on their own.

I don't want to kill them, so that's why I've brought this to AC haha.

Thanks.

i would say they are fine, have fun planting them around the tank!

Not to hijack a thread or anything .....

But I have heard that your not suppose to remove off shoots until the baby plant is almost half the size of the parent

Well I have 3 sword plants that are about 2-3 feet tall and very wide. They all have runners with many baby swords. They have been on there for about 2 months now and are about 1/10th the size of their parents. They look like they could be fine if i planted them on thier own now. Seems like I would have to wait years for these lil guys to reach half the size of their parents.

So when should i cut?

Same here I have one sword variety (not sure of the name ) that produces on a runner and I remove the baby plants when they have a good root system and plant where I want another one and the process starts all over.
I wish all my plants were as generous with offspring!!
