Ive had one of these for like 2 months now and I finally noticed this little white crab inside of it.. Maybe it was smaller before so I didnt notice it.. but now i see it.. small white and it crawls around inside the thing never coming out.. strange.. could be my immagination..

He is a real crab it seems because he has 8 legs and 2 pincer so hopefully that helps.. he looks pearl.. like his carapace is shiny like one.. the rest is a pale white.. he seems to be eating debris in there.. I was going to try and get him out to take a photo.. but 1 I dont want to hurt the scallop and 2 they are extremily hard to take care of according to the sites only surviving an average of 3-9months in captivity making me worried about pronging or irritating it.. they prefer one specific size of phyto.. so I have to feed it regularily hoping it catches enough of the food it requires.. Im not sure what to do or think of this little critter.. I cant find any pics on the web either.. I'll use my crappy camera and try for a couple shots.. wish me luck!

well tons of marine critters use each other as survival tools, the crab might just be like a clownfish and an anemone

To be honest thats what I was hoping for... to find out its a safe combination lol.. its kind of neat having him in there because when the scallop is open and flashing with electrical pulses hes inside crawling around.. there is so much to look at :)

I shuck a lot of oysters and finding little crabs in a healthy oyster is pretty common. It could be interpreted as a sign of good health, that the scallop can support a crab. My dad eats oysters, crab n all... he's rather healthy too. perhaps hosting a crab himself.
