75 gallon stocking

I had a yellow eyed kole tang in my predator tank and it did fine. One of the few tangs that can be somewhat suitable for a 75G IMO. You could go with a Wolf eel, thats what I used to have. ;)

Here was my stock list.. knowing what I know now I would most definately not recommend a Stars and Stripes puffer in a 75G tank. Super agressive fish that needs a very large tank to be happy. Any eel and a lion is taking a risk. I had this predator tank/fish from 97-2001.

okay ACE, so I'm pretty sure i'm gonna go with a 125 gallon off of craigslist-- and I will get generally same fish-- I would like to get a blue powder tang but idk yet or if that would work. Anyway I have a question- the guy is selling it with a bunch of stuff and the skimmer he has looks like this-- I don't really know much about it but i've seen stuff like this at stores and whatnot -- is it good? or probably junk?

Ya, looks like a Seaclone skimmer.. pretty junk, very hard to keep adjusted and working correctly. That was my first skimmer as well on my predator tank. It is better than nothing... but not by much. Tank, stand, and light look fine for a predator tank. You don't want really bright "reef" light on most predator tanks.

Please reconsider the PBT. Extremely hard fish to get established. I would definately recommend doing as many google searches on that fish before you buy one. The aggressiveness of them would probably go great in a predator tank, but they have a lot of issues IMO. I think the Powder Brown is a much safer option than a powder blue, but I really wouldn't recommend either of those tangs. There are literally dozens if not hundreds of tangs to chose from so I would suggest you keep looking and keep asking questions about the ones you like. Not saying you can't have a Powder Blue... just saying really read up on them before you buy one.

I agree with you with the tang- from stuff i've all ready read it's iffy stuff- If I decide to go with one I will definitly do alot of research- I'm not sure if I want to keep that skimmer otherwise i'll probably get the 150 gallon reef octopus in sump-- I guess i'll see how much I like it and how well it works. -- thanks a ton for the help

The bulb is a standard 40w flo. t12 is the size big fat one. You can use a t8 in the fixture without any problems and would be fine for a predator tank. IMO I would use a 50/50 mix or a color max so the fish show well. You can also keep a snow flake eel with the lion.

Yup, I used to use a cheap $10 wal-mart "shop light" as my lighting on my predator tank, 2 T12 40w bulbs, one daylight, one actinic, and it looked great. I agree if you use 1 bulb go with a 50/50 bulb to bring out the colors more.
