I was told oscars aren't harmed by ph or hardness of water but I want to breed them so should I change the chemistry?

I set my ph at 6.8 and moderate on the hardness, more to the soft side if you can. A friend that breeds them told me to seperate for a couple of weeks, have temp at 72-73 when you first seperate and up it to 80, slowly, by the time you reintroduce. He uses a tank divider they can't see through. He's had a lot of luck.
Allow for your type of water too. If you're using hard water and can't get the ph down you could shock them if you get more than a .5 ph swing. I use bottled water here. Usually comes at about 6.8 anyway. Water here is way too hard. That would be a serious consideration. My water is so hard ph down, etc. just don't work. ph here is 8.2 out of the tap. If I put 2 gallons of this water in my 150 I go from 6.8 to 7.1. Something to think about. They defenitly like it acidic so you'll get better results from a lower ph.
